Welcome to Rochester, New York’s 26th annual

THANKSGIVING DANCE WEEKEND!

Our featured performers:

Notorious Musicians Eden MacAdam-Somer and Larry Unger present a wondrous musical experience in genres that span many continents. With Eden on fiddle and vocals and Larry on guitar and banjo, their music lights up the hall with rhythm and sonority. Their performances are always new and exciting, featuring traditional American, Celtic, and Eastern-European tunes and songs, swing, blues, classical music and the group’s original compositions. A favorite on the contra dance circuit, Notorious has been a featured ensemble at such festivals as Falcon Ridge, Wheatland, Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Eastbourne International Festival, the Savannah Folk Festival, Pinewoods, and the Augusta Music Festival. They’ll be joined by the astounding percussionist, Mark Hellenberg.

Riverbend Musicians Rebecca McCallum on fiddle, Tom Santarsiero on mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo, and foot percussion, and Jane Knoeck on piano and accordion. These three accomplished and versatile musicians play with exuberance and delight, ramping up the energy for contras, playing perfect English Country dances and any number of couples dances.

Tim Ball & Tom Hodgson A recent graduate of the Ithaca College School of Music where he studied violin, Tim Ball brings training in classical music and jazz improvization together with a love of social dancing and a great respect for the traditional music of New England, Ireland, Quebec, and the many other regions that have lent their influence to contra dance musicians everywhere. Tim plays with a number of bands including TuneScape and Contrapasso. Tom Hodgson adds innovative guitar accompaniment and imaginative melodic embellishments and is a member of many bands including the Contradictions.

Carol Ormand Carol Ormand brings unique humor from Madison Wisconsin to her contra calling. She’s been calling dances since 1990 and regularly calls at dances, weekends, and festivals all over the United States (and occasionally abroad). Well taught intricate contras and squares, Carol’s dances are especially fun.

Pamela Goddard A favorite caller from Ithaca, New York, Pamela Goddard has an extensive repertoire of English Country Dances and is consistently attentive to the dancers on the floor. Her absolute love of English Country Dancing manifests itself in a graceful teaching style.

Richard Sauvain It’s fair to say that Richard Sauvain has built the English Country Dance community in Rochester. He schedules the twice monthly English dances and organizes the annual Jane Austen Ball. His joy in teaching, dancing, and promoting English Country Dancing makes him a favorite, not only locally, but in the surrounding area.
